Assignments

1. Scholarly reading is a critical task in this seminar, and indeed throughout your doctoral program. Readings have been assigned for each class meeting as shown in the course calendar. You are responsible for reading the assigned material before it is discussed in class. The readings have been selected on the basis of their status as "classics" related to instructional technology or educational research in general and/or because they provide an unique overview of research in a given area. Our exchange of ideas in this seminar will be based on the assumption that you have prepared for each class.

2. Another essential task is to set up an electronic bibliographic management system for the articles, papers, books, etc. that you read in your doctoral program using software such as EndNote, HTML, or other database programs. Hopefully, all the second year students already have this task well-organized, so they can provide worthwhile advice for the new students. The first year students will be called upon to demonstrate their approach to information management sometime after the middle of the semester.

3. Attendance is important because we only meet once a week! The members of the Doctoral Program Management Committee are committed to making, with you, the seminar to be a positive and powerful learning opportunity. If you are going to be absent, please inform Professor Hannafin (the Seminar Leader of record) beforehand.
