The Ism Game

Next week in the EDIT 8990 seminar, we'll be playing the "Ism Game." To prepare yourself for this game, please do the following things before we meet on Thursday, September 13, 2001.

1. Read Chapter One from: Casti, J. L. (1989). Paradigms Lost: Images of man in the mirror of science. New York: William Morrow. This chapter was distributed during the seminar meeting last week.

2. Familiarize yourself with the following "isms."

You can do this in several ways:

  • Search for the terms unfamiliar to you on the Web
  • Consult a good dictionary
  • Read a good book on the philosophy of science in education such as:
