EDIT 7650
Analysis Plan
Value: 10 points
created 1-14-08
Purpose of this
Assignment
Next to the Design itself, figuring
out how to begin analysis of data may present the most challenging part
of any research project. This assignment provides an opportunity to
plan data analysis based on data actually collected, and receive
feedback on the plan and possibly other suggestions for moving
forward.
AASL
Standards
4.3
Comprehensive and
Collaborative Strategic Planning and Assessment
Other standards may also be involved, depending upon the topic of your
research.
Task
- Restate your Researchable Question.
- Provide a synopsis of data collection activities up to this
point. If your process deviated from your Design, simply explain
what happened, and why you decided to change a procedure. I visualize a
numbered list for this component. You should request advice and
approval prior to significantly changing your Research Design if at all
possible.
- Provide a small sample of each different kind of data collected.
- Describe how you will initially organize your data. Will you use
a spreadsheet to summarize survey questions or interview questions?
Will you use file folders, concept map, database, word processor, or
other tool? (These are just ideas. There are many more possibilities.)
Explain any logistical tasks, such as sorting, labeling, transcribing,
coding pseudonyms, etc.
- What do you see as your first step in analysis?
- What subsequent steps do you see? Often, subsequent steps
depend upon or stem from the first step. Predict as well as you can.
- How well do you see yourself positioned in terms of answering the
Research Question?
- Provide an updated timeline of project tasks.
- Self-assess.
Guidelines
- You are primarily working on
Results in your initial analysis. If you feel the desire to
discuss or explain results, jot those ideas down - they will go in the
Discussion section. Do not mix these in your final report.
- Concise, bulleted language (rather
than narrative) is the most efficient means of communicating your ideas
here.
- This
assignment will receive full credit if complete.
- Throughout this course, I
encourage early submission of most assignments.
Submission
Format
If submitting early, you have 2
choices:
- mail to my Macon address (see WebCT/7650 homepage) - make sure to
keep a backup copy!
- submit to appropriate WebCT dropbox (use one file if possible;
insert your name into the filename, thus: susieq-analysis-plan.doc)
Otherwise, bring a hard copy to
your conference appointment on Feb 16.
If you mail or bring a hard copy, there is no need to submit
electronically.
