  1. language barriers
  2. physical handicaps
  3. illiterate/ don't read at grade level
  4. can't use computers
  5. lack of computers
  6. circulation policies, restrictive
  7. financial limitations/owe fees etc.
  8. size of furniture is not age-appropriate
  9. physical layout
  10. signs to indicate where things are are insufficient
  11. non-flexible scheduling or access, especially for teachers - hours are restrictive
  12. charges for printing and copying
  13. restricted circulation on reference materials
  14. not enough copies of resource materials
  15. not enough copies of resources that support objectives
  16. kids can't check out all formats of materials
  17. currency of resources
  18. time teachers have during the day for going to the media center
  19. restricted sections
  20. inability to find books or other resources using the search tools available in the media center
  21. insufficient knowledge of equipment usage
  22. approval of parents necessary to use computer for any purpose - not just, but including internet usage
  23. unorganized materials
  24. preconceptions of the way the media specialist might allow you to use the center based on someone who was in charge in the past
  25. height of shelves (too high, too low)
  26. collection doesn't match curriculum
  27. lack of knowledge about or participation in collaboration with teachers
  28. internet filtering restrictions
  29. unattractive bindings that don't appeal to users
  30. uninviting atmosphere
  31. no process for teaching new students and/or teachers about the resources available and how to use them
  32. technology failures - denying checkout if the machines are down
  33. physical environment: bad lighting, uncomfortable temperature
  34. censorship
  35. safety problems
  36. hogging materials
  37. media specialist inaccessibility
  38. restricted to a certain reading level - AR ranges, keep kids from checking out books they are interested in
  39. books labeled keep kids from learning how to find books or other resources in the media center
  40. reading programs that kill natural love of reading
  41. having books separated by levels keeps teachers from being able to find resources easily by using the OPAC
  42. social restrictions caused by labeling that is obvious to other student
