Working Within Windows:

How to Open, Manipulate, Close, and Quit Windows, Files, Folders, and Software Programs

I. Open

A. Windows:

1. Turn on computer power

2. Log on if needed

B. Files:

1. Click File in the program

2. Click Open

3. On the pull down menu, choose where file is located (i.e. in a or c drive)

4. Open file

C. Folders:

1. Click File

2. Click Open

3. Locate the appropriate location for the folder on the pull-down menu

4. Open the folder

D. Software Programs:

1. Install Program

2. Click Start, then Programs, then click appropriate program

Or double-click icon

 

II. Close

A. Windows:

1. Click Start

2. Click Shut Down

3. Click Shut Down if it is not the default setting for closing

4. Click Ok

B. Files & Folders:

1. Click File

2. Click Close

or click on the bottom x button at the top right hand corner of the screen

C. Software Programs:

1. Save information

2. Click on File, then click close

Or click on the top x button at the top right hand corner of the screen

 

III. Manipulate

A. For windows and programs:

1. Minimize screen: Click dash at top right hand corner of screen

2. Maximize: Click on Program on toolbar at the bottom of the screen

3. Move around: Use arrows on the outside of windows

4. Adjust size: Use arrows on the outside of windows
