Job Aid —Copying and Pasting

Yookyung Noh, Lisa Strozier, and Patty Cincotta

Copying and pasting is a very useful tool while working in a word processing program or while using the Internet. It is a great way to speed up the process of accessing information and minimizing the work involved. In order to use the copying and pasting tool, follow these steps:

Type what you need in a word processing program.

When you need to make changes or move words or pictures around, highlight the words you want to move or copy. Then follow one of these methods.

Pasting is the next step. The computer will remember the last thing you copy, and it will paste it anywhere you ask it to by choosing "paste" on any one of the aforementioned methods. (Control and V held down at the same time will paste things.)

Not only can this be used in a word processing program, it can also be used on the Internet. A favorite use of copy and paste is in the manipulation of URLs, or Internet addresses. Instead of having to remember or retype the URL of a favorite site, it can simply be copied and pasted into the location or address box. This can be used for creating links on web sites, also.
