Educators always need resources
of various kinds to help with teaching. Regardless of the content
area of your teaching, you need a system for organizing and accessing your
resources. Databases are ideal tools for creating a resource file
that will help you in this task. The purpose of this assignment is
to provide an opportunity for practicing simple database skills.
More importantly, this assignment will provide an opportunity to begin
a Resource File for your own area of teaching. You may also gain
some ideas about how to apply databases as an instructional tool for student
use.
Task
Set up a database file to serve
as the beginning of a resource file. You may use Microsoft Access
or any database software at your disposal. You may choose any topic,
but it should be one related to your educational work. Target resources
that you can actually use. Database records should "point" to resources,
not necessarily contain them. Resources may be web sites, printed
materials from your filing cabinet, library books that you want to remember,
math manipulatives, etc.
Components
Turn in a hard copy containing one complete record, plus a table report that shows all of your records (but only 4 or 5 of your fields). Accompany this with a paragraph or two explaining how the database is set up and how you will use it.
