Assignment Description and Evaluation Rubric
Research Report
Value: 35 points
incorporates ideas by Janette Hill

Assignment Description: The Research Report is the presentation of the results of your research efforts.  It tells the story of what actually happened during data collection, how you analyzed the data gathered, insights gleaned from the analysis, and implications and conclusions drawn based on these insights.  Although many research projects require a formal report, another useful artifact is a research presentation, to be given in person to stakeholders (parents, administrators, peers, etc.).  This assignment will take the form of a Powerpoint presentation, which must be completely self-explanatory.  This presentation should provide most of the information usually presented in a research report, but in brief form.

Preferred Mode: Group

Required components:

  1. Title slide, which states title of your report, author name(s), date, and the imaginary or real audience
  2. Background and Problem
  3. Research question or purpose statement
  4. Related research (tight synopsis of literature review)
  5. Methodology (including design, data collection, and analysis)
  6. Participants
  7. Data sources
  8. Results
  9. Discussion (your interpretation)
  10. Conclusion
  11. Implications
  12. Recommendations for practice
  13. References
Guidelines:
The most important consideration for this assignment is that the scope of the project fit within the course timeline.  I will help you with this.  In most cases, you will be asked to narrow ... narrow more ... and narrow still more.
