Assignment Description: As a researcher, there are many techniques or designs that can be used to answer research questions. It is important to remember that the research question or problem should be established before the design can be chosen. In this assignment, you will choose one specific type of research design, technique, or analytical technique, study it, and explain it to the class in the form of a recipe. This chosen design need not be the one you expect to use for your research project, but it certainly can be.

Preferred Mode: Individual

Required components:

A clear definition and description of the technique or methodology, including whether it's a methodology, design, technique, analysis, or something else
One or more ideas of how this technique might be used to answer a research question
One or more examples of real research studies that have used this technique
Advantages and disadvantages of this technique
A list of three or more resources for further information - besides Leedy

Guidelines:

Sometimes, the dividing line between methodology, design, technique, and analysis is hazy. Often, a specific design, data collection technique, and analysis "go together." You should concentrate on only one of these aspects for this assignment. I will let you know if your topic is too big, too small, or otherwise a problem when you send it in - don't start your preparation until you hear from me.
Use your text to help you choose one recipe topic.
No two students should choose to present the same research design.
Send your choice to mfitzger@coe.uga.edu as soon as you're sure - first come, first served. Check the agenda to see which topics have been taken.
Design a mini-lesson with the above information.
Provide a 1-page handout with enough copies for each student on the day of your lesson.
Expect to present your mini-lesson at some point during the meeting week - time TBA in a logical order.

Submission Format:

I will grade these "live" as they are presented, and may incorporate peer evaluation as well.
Print 2 copies of the rubric; fill one out on yourself. I may ask you to print several more, depending upon the peer evaluation process.
Make sure I get a copy of your handout.
