Shockwave for Authorware

Workshop Description

This workshop will be conducted by Dr. Lloyd Rieber.

This workshop will introduce participants to Macromedia's Shockwave technology. I will show the entire process from start to finish. I will also show how to link the shocked piece to an existing HTML file. I will use the context of constructing a web-based lesson that uses a shocked authorware file as an "interactive module", similar to what is expected by participants in EDIT 6200.

I will delete and then rebuild and upload to my ARCHES account a web-based lesson that I currently have stored at "http://www.arches.uga.edu/~lrieber/lprieber/constructlesson.html". This lesson links to an interactive module called "SimSchool" -- a simulation about educational philosophy.

Workshop Preparation

Please read "Appendix E: Shockwave" in my book "Getting Interactive with Authorware". I also have prepared a step-by-step job aid.

Also, review the following web-based lessons to see how I linked shocked interactive modules to the lessons. (Click here to view an illustration of the "Anatomy of an Interactive Instructional Web Site" -- an enlarged copy of this is taped to the wall in 615.) Take note of how I set up a separate HTML document for each module to contain a description of the module and how it is the location that the module automatically links to when the user choose to quit the module:

Here are some examples:

Lloyd's web-based lesson on constructivism (This is the same lesson as above, but with additional resources. This is the version that I actually publicize.)

Lloyd's web lesson about physics (This incorporates an interactive module called "Space Shuttle Commander" -- a simulation about Newton's laws of motion)

Also review the WWILD Team home page -- the best shocked modules designed this semester will be showcased in this database.

Finally, it goes without saying that you might check out "Making of 'Nowhere Road - The Game'"', since I used Shockwave to share my game prototypes.
