Location: Room 601 Aderhold Hall

Seminar Description

This seminar will deal with reasons for, methods of, and benefits and pitfalls in integrating the internet into the classroom. Gary has attempted this integration and will share both his successes and failures experienced during this past year.

This seminar will be conducted by Gary Shattuck.

I will talk about why and how I decide to integrate the internet into my classroom strategies. I will show the evolution of my classroom web pages followed by a discussion of the pitfalls and the benefits of this sort of integration. I first experimented with this approach two years ago in a 6th grade class and then tried a full implementation this past year while teaching high school.

I see the internet (technology) as a 3 part approach:

  1. as a research tool that allows a greater variety of information to be available to the regular high school student.
  2. as a method of communication with not only the student but also with the parents as well.
  3. as a showcase of the students work.

The reason I am using technology is that I believe that it is a great motivator and also I believe that we should increase our students' comfort level with technology as a preparation for the future.
