Self-Directed Learning Seminar

Location: Room 601 Aderhold Hall

Attendance required by all participants taking EDIT 6190 for the first time.

Attendance by other studio participants is not required, but strongly encouraged! (In fact your self-directed learning stories while in the studio so far are critical for the seminar's success.)

Seminar Description

Because your experience in The Studio revolves around the idea of Self-Directed Learning (SDL), we will explore the issues and literature surrounding SDL. Our hope is that you will come away with a better understanding and a set of expectations for your Studio experience. Attendance is required by all "first timers", but all studio participants are welcome. Ideally, we would like to have several of the experienced Studio participants come to share their experiences as well.

This seminar will be conducted by Lloyd Rieber.

Seminar Preparation

1. Please come prepared to share at least one story of your own self-directed learning, that is, a time where you took control of all aspects your learning needs. If you stop and think about it for a moment, you have hundreds of stories to tell!

2. Read Sebastian Fiedler's paper on self-directed learning.
