Admission Requirements

The decision to admit an applicant to a degree program is based on a careful review of the entire application. The goal statement and letters of recommendation are particularly important. Acceptable GPAs and test scores are required as per the following:

GRE* (Verbal + Quantitative)
Grade Point Avg. (Based on a 4.0 scale)
900
(Min. of 450 on each section)
3.3 (Graduate)
2.6 (Undergraduate)

*Other sections of the GRE are not used in the admissions decision.

The Graduate School requires a graduate application for admission (including a $50 application fee), and evidence of master's degree. International applicants must also take the TOEFL exam. The minimum score for this exam is 213 for the computer version, or 550 for the printed version.

Prerequisite

A Master's degree (MA/M.Ed) in education (with or without teacher certification) is required for admittance to the Specialist program.

General Degree Requirements

A presentation of the results of the applied project serves as the basis of a comprehensive oral examination which is required by the Graduate School at the end of the student's program.

Additional requirements of the Graduate School are listed in the UGA Graduate School Bulletin .

Certification Requirements

To be certified in Georgia as a School Media Specialist at the S-6 level, an individual must complete a program of study that has been approved by the Georgia State Department of Education and attain a passing score on the Georgia PRAXIS examination in school media in addition to completing a Specialist Degree.
