Non Degree Courses

n rare cases, completing an entire degree is not in the best interest of the candidate. The most common example is a teacher who needs one or two courses to meet certification requirements and who has no intention of completing a degree. Non-degree applications are carefully reviewed.

The Graduate School requires a graduate application for admission, $50 application fee, evidence of a bachelor's degree, and a goal statement. In addition, our department has the following admissions requirements for non-degree candidates:

  1. Applications for non-degree study involving 9 semester hours or less must include a goal statement and a proposed plan of study. Other information, as requested by the department or Graduate School, may also be required.

  2. Applications for non-degree study involving more than 9 semester hours must include a goal statement, a proposed plan of study, three letters of recommendation, and GRE scores. Minimum acceptable GRE scores are the same as those required for the M.Ed. degree. GRE scores cannot be older than 5 years. Other information, as requested by the department or Graduate School, may also be required.

  3. All applications for non-degree study leading to a departmental recommendation for state certification must include GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, and a goal statement. Minimum acceptable GRE scores are the same as those required for the M.Ed. degree. GRE scores cannot be older than 5 years. Other information, as requested by the department or Graduate School, may also be required.

Please note that non-degree students who are later admitted as prospective degree candidates may apply a maximum of 9 hours of course work to the degree, if approved by the Department.

Non-degree credits may NOT be used toward the Ed.S. degree.
