listserv Commands

 

Here are some important notes about how to participate in ITFORUM:

Use the address itforum@listserv.uga.edu   to send comments or questions to the entire list. (You are "speaking" to ALL of the other ITFORUM subscribers when you use this address--be sure that your message is intended for a world-wide audience).

 

Use the address listserv@listserv.uga.edu  to control your subscription to ITFORUM by means of the following commands. (Type each command as the first line of your e-mail message and be sure to turn off any "signature" options in your communications software--you are "speaking" to a mainframe computer when you use this address and it can be easily confused if you don't speak to it properly):

SIGNOFF ITFORUM

Cancels your subscription to ITFORUM and removes your name from the group.

SET ITFORUM SUBJecthdr

Automatically puts ITFORUM in the subject line of every email that is sent from thegroup. This allows you to sort your email into folders.

SET ITFORUM DIGEST

Bundles all of the day's messages into one or two e-mail messages (instead of receiving each posting individually).

SET ITFORUM NODIGEST

Turns off the digest feature.

SET ITFORUM NOMAIL

Turns off receipt of ITFORUM mail without removing you from the list (useful for temporarily stopping mail when you go on vacation).

SET ITFORUM MAIL

Turns back on the receipt of ITFORUM mail.

INDEX ITFORUM

Provides you with a list of the available archived ITFORUM files (all contributions are automatically archived for a short period of time).

GET ITFORUM filename filetype

Retrieves a specific archived file when the proper file name and type as listed in the index (see above command) are requested.
