W hile the admissions requirements for each degree differ, the materials required for each are the same. Here is a step-by-step account of how to apply:

  1. Be sure that one of our academic programs is right for you by reviewing the information on our web site. You should contact Dr. Paul Schutzl, the Graduate Coordinator, if you have any general questions or concerns. You may also contact other faculty with questions or just to talk about your goals and whether our program is right for you.

  2. If you decide to apply, contact the Graduate School and request that an application package be sent to you. They can be reached by phone: (706) 542 1739, or by e-mail (gradadm@arches.uga.edu). All of the forms (Application, Recommendation letters) can also be obtained from the UGA Graduate School Web site. There is also a complete on-line version of the UGA Gradute Bulletin .

  3. Complete the application form and submit the $50 fee directly to the Graduate School Admissions Office.

For M.Ed. and Ed.S. program applicants:
Be sure to indicate the program to which you are applying (e.g. General, School Library Media, or Technology Integration).

  4. Contact every college you attended and have them send two official transcripts directly to the Graduate School Admission Office.

  5. Take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and attain acceptable test scores on the verbal and quantitative sections (individually and combined). These scores must be sent directly by the Educational Testing Service to the Graduate School Admission Office. International students must also submit an acceptable TOEFL score.

  6. Submit a Goal Statement that explains in detail (1-2 pages) your goals and why you are interested in the degree program to which you are applying (i.e. how your goals match up). Take some time with this. Imagine that you are speaking to our Admissions Committee when you write this (it is usually the first thing that is read). This statement can be sent directly to Instructional Technology.

For Ph.D. program applicants: If your are applying for the doctoral program, please be sure also to include the following information in your goal statement: who you are, why you want the Ph.D., what you will do with it, and how do you see the field of instructional technology contributing to your professional goals?  Also look to include responses to the following questions: who do you think among our faculty would be your best advisor and why, and how does this person's research interests fit with your own interests?

  7. Submit three letters of recommendation. It is your choice who writes these letters, but keep in mind that these letters should be written by individuals who are able to speak about your professional qualifications and your potential for success in graduate study. These letters can be sent directly to Instructional Technology (forms are included in the application packet from the Graduate School or from their web site).

  8. Complete all of the required application materials so that they are received by the specific deadline dates listed in the individual program areas.
