With these few information items, the advisor can usually check your
status and clear you for registration. He/she will let you know if more
discussion is necessary.
Dr. Fitzgerald's advisees: you may simply write a note and leave it in
your folder, or email - your choice.
Remember: Don't wait until the last minute. You must be cleared
by your advisor, and professors often disappear to points unknown for
days at a time! If you take care of registration well in advance,
you will minimize your worries.

ESOL Endorsement
As of 11-10-05, anyone with a Clear Renewable certificate in any area
(T, S, or L) may add the ESOL endorsement. In other words, a
Teaching field is not a necessary precursor. Some students may want to
consider pursuing the ESOL endorsement, which consists of ELAN 7730,
ELAN 7040, ELAN 7630. ELAN 7630 is a particulary relevant SLM
elective, because it deals with material design and teaching methods to
use with non-native English speakers. For more information about
about the ESOL program,
work with the Department of Language and Literacy Education.
It is now possible to add a Reading Endorsement to any teaching certificate in Georgia. All courses for the Reading Endorsement must have been completed after July 1, 2000 when the endorsement went into effect! The Department of Language and Literacy Education has been approved by the state Professional Standards Commission to offer the Endorsement to any student completing the following 3 courses:
READ 6010 Foundations of Reading
Instruction (online or on campus)
READ 6020 Children With Reading Problems (online or on campus)
and ONE of the following courses depending upon whether the Endorsement is sought respectively at the elementary, middle, or secondary school level:
READ 6420 Literacy Development and
Instruction in Early Childhood
(online or on campus)
READ 6070 Middle School Reading (online or on campus)
READ 6030 Teaching Reading in the Secondary School
For more information on the Reading Education
program, contact the Department of Language and Literacy Education.
