Hello!  This message pertains to all SLM students who are expecting to present a portfolio or an applied project for graduation or certification completion in Fall 2007. 

 
Each semester, we sponsor one full day of these final presentations for the convenience of everyone involved.  We have traditionally called this event the “Marathon” because it usually means hour after hour of meetings with students.  We enjoy it, however, because it’s a day of celebration of student work and a highly efficient way of handling this final requirement for everyone.

The Summer Marathon will be held at the Gwinnett University Center on Wednesday, December 12.  The faculty committee for these portfolio and applied project meetings will be Janette Hill, Mary Ann Fitzgerald,and Julie Tallman. Your advisor will chair your meeting and help you through all final phases of portfolio and applied project development.

Graduating and finishing students must register for this event.  Begin by deciding what part of that day, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., you may be available.  Although M.Ed. students will actually present for only 30 minutes and Ed.S. for 45, we need you to give us as wide a timeframe as possible.  We recommend that you plan to take at least one-half day off of work (if applicable) for this purpose, and plan to sit in on some meetings of your friends.

Monique will acknowledge your registration by return email; you should follow up if this does not happen.  We will announce a schedule about two weeks after the registration deadline. 

 
If this date or location simply won’t work for you, don’t despair.  Please email janette@uga.edu if this is the case, by the same deadline.  Unfortunately, you will probably have extra logistical work to do – so make sure to think this through carefully.

 
Graduating Ed.S. students should be heavily involved with their advisors by now.  Students presenting portfolios should have gained enough information in class to be well started with this process.  If you are not feeling on top of these tasks, contact your advisor right away.
