1. Interlocking, back-and-forth nature of Research Question and Design

Extremely difficult to identify a Step One
Metaphor: Design = menu for a family dinner; Methods/techniques = the recipes that go on the menu
Some are ahead of this, others not

Frankel: big overview
Gustafson & Smith: down to earth, old, context-specific
Trochim: advanced, but a great source for highly specific exploration

Keep interacting with a mentor - a little bit of regular guidance goes a long way
