Cycle 1: Aug 17 - Sep 13
Tasks to complete by this date, in order (as much as possible):
[] Read the Syllabus; and explore the website and WebCT to figure out where things are.
[] Form your team as early as possible. 
[] Organize your calendar around all the dates provided, especially the meeting dates and the due dates.
[] Open a Skype account and add me to your contact list (my ID is maryannfitzgerald).  You can IM me or "call  me" (for free) anytime I'm logged onto Skype.
[] Subscribe to the C7 Blog using the form on the home page.
[] Complete SLMS Interviewee "assignment" - just the first part. Submit to WebCT dropbox.
[] Read all of Farmer.
[] Identify an SLM blogger who watches and applies new ideas and research; follow for the semester; incorporate ideas as appropriate.
[] Consider opening a Delicious account. And/or, consider subscribing to the RSS feed for the 6900 bundle.
[] For the topic "What is Research," read:  []Scholastic and []Todd; [] review Farmer intro
[] Complete activity: "What is Research?"  There is no deliverable for this activity.
[] Read for "Types of Research:" Gordon
[] Listen: to Gordon commentary related to types of research. Use this document, and two audiofiles (instructions are in the document). The audio is less than 10 minutes, total.
[] Claim your Star as soon as possible; submit name to the Exhibition Manager.
[] Conduct SLMS Interview.
[] Write up and submit SLMS Interview assignment (dropbox).
[] (If you plan to do an internship this academic year, explore the Internship site.)
[] Attend class on Sept 13, 9a-11a; Internship 11-12; Lunch 12-12:30
[] Plan an intense groupwork session as you negotiate your team membership and start discussing the RQ assignment. 

Cycle 2: Sep 14 - Sep 27
Tasks to complete by this date, in order (as much as possible):


[] Read through the SLMS Interviews submitted on the WebCT Discussion Board.
[] Send me your team-member's names. I will set up your WebCT team discussion board as they come in.
[] With your team, negotiate your topic choice.
[] Framing a research problem (and drafting an RQ): listen to this audio - will help with RQ assignment.
[] Work on the RQ assignment, and submit by 9/27.
[] Start Research Notebook.

[]I plan to provide feedback on your PPP Drafts by around 10/18. There may be specific follow-up tasks for your group to take care of. In any case, plan to debrief the feedback within your team.

For Critique assignment (due 10/25)
  • Review: Critiquing research studies
  • Statistics: if your crit article is loaded with statistics, do not fear!  Read Farmer 28-36 as a quick overview of stats.
  • In 2007, I started an FAQ for the Critique Assignment.  Email your questions about this task and I will answer publically or privately, as appropriate.
