Purpose:
This assignment combines
word processing skills (letter writing), knowledge of the benefits of technology
for education, and Internet research skills. You will apply this
knowledge through reasoning and persuasive argumentation in a realistic
exercise that may be useful to you in the future.
Imagine
this scenario:
You are now a teacher, and
your classroom is ill-equipped with technology. Perhaps you have
older computers with slow Internet connections, or no connection at all.
You would like to upgrade your equipment by installing wiring, a projector,
better computers, software, or some other piece of technology. Unfortunately,
there is no money in the budget to provide the item(s) you need.
You decide to approach your Parent-Teacher Association for funding.
You know that you must present your case with strong arguments in favor
of spending money on technology, but you feel that the benefits are worth
the effort.
Task
Write a letter to the PTA requesting funding for your technology plan. State your case, and make your letter as persuasive as possible.
Guidelines
You have the option to
work on this assignment with a partner. If you choose to collaborate,
the two of you must agree on all aspects of the assignment and you will
receive exactly the same score. Also, the letter should reflect your
collaborative situation. For example, you could be two teachers who
are team-teaching and will use the purchased technology jointly between
you.
Format
Print out your assignment
and leave it in your folder on or before February 12.
