Databases provide
a means of organizing information. Teachers can use databases to organize
collections of resources and content information. Students can create databases
to organize topics like inventors, states, countries, birds, mathematical
formulas, diseases, writers, and many others. The purpose of this assignment
is to provide an opportunity for practicing simple database skills.
Ideally, you will gain some ideas about how to apply databases as an instructional
tool for student use.
Task
Set up a database
file containing a minimum of 5 records and 5 fields. You may use
any database software at your disposal, but we will demonstrate Microsoft
Access in class. You may choose any topic for your database,
but it should be one related to your educational work.
Format
Turn in a hard copy containing one complete record, plus a table report that shows all or some of your records. Accompany this with a paragraph or two explaining how the database is set up and how you will use it. Include in this paragraph additional ideas for how you might use databases, and how you might get students involved using them.
