Course Description
|
Technology specialist's and
school media specialist's role in collaborative planning partnerships
with classroom teachers, integration of information literacy skills within
the curriculum, and strategies for teaching information literacy (I-Search).

Course
Goals
|
Students will demonstrate a
working knowledge of the research process through study and completion
of an I-Search project, collaborative planning with classroom teachers
integrating information literacy strategies, and curriculum planning with
teachers. This class will concentrate on the integration of technology
and information literacy skills and strategies within the curriculum through
the research process.

Course Objectives
|
- The student will demonstrate
an understanding of technology and information literacy strategies underlying
the research process.
- The student will demonstrate
and document the process of collaborative planning through the creation
of 2 different units with one or more classroom teacher colleagues.
- The student will identify
and integrate a number of technology and information literacy skills
and strategies within the curriculum units and integrate them through
the I-Search research process. The student will have personally experienced
many of these strategies through the I-Search assignment.
- If at all possible, the
student is encouraged to teach at least one of the units during the
term.

than Duncan.
- Duncan, D., & Lockhart,
L. (2000). I-search, you search, we all learn to research. NY: Neal-Schuman.
1-55570-381-x. Optional, purchase this if your interests are at the
elementary level. This text has many strategies and worksheets that
are very useful. It will help you with the final assignment at the elementary
level.

Face-2-face
Class Meeting/Virtual Office Hours/Asynchronous work
|
Our class will meet face-to-face
for the only time on January 15th, 9am-10:30am, room 1630, building A,
Gwinnett University Center. This time comes in Dr. Fitzgerald's 6340 class.
Virtual office hours start
Tuesday, January 18 from 7:30 to 8:30pm, thereafter every Tuesday and
Thursday at 7:30. You need only attend one session a week. Archives will
be kept on the webct course site.
